Custom Avatars - why?
My brand new custom avatar! by tallynt
Take a look at my cute new avatar. After seeing these cute Chick graphics everywhere, I decided that I must have one. Thankfully for me the process was super simple.
I went to the matter of scrap site and checked out all the details. A couple of hours after I purchased the product, I got a letter directly from Clara asking me for some information and photos. I got to pick my hair color, lip color (there were so many lipsticks to choose from I may need to change them as I change my mood, not to mention hair color), and clothing color.
Finding a good picture of myself was the challenge. I sent some older ones but may hair was longer and not the same color in them so I snapped a quick but rather unflattering shot of myself via my mac's webcam. Definitely not something I will be posting up anywhere soon.
Somehow an adorable version of myself was pulled together from that photo. No idea how she did it but she must be a creative genius. And she made me super skinny! If only it were that easy in real life.
I received a PNG version that I can update as needed to change my clothes, lip color and background. I have to say I am very happy with it and now feel the need to update my signature everywhere to include it.
I am feeling the need to get one for my entire family so I can use them for my mailing labels. How cute would my babes look at little cartoons.
How to create or get your own custom avatar?
You can go my route and get one at Matter of Scrap. The price is reasonable given the fact that is custom for you and it is a fun way to represent yourself rather than a photo.
There are lots of other sites that create custom avatars as well, just do a google search for them. I found Angel Avatars while doing a quick search.
I created my previous avatar using my mac, the webcam and the fun photo booth features.
I was using the Andy Warhol feature for this one but there were lots of other silly ones to play with as well.
Take a look at Clara's article at Digital Scrapbooking on the topic where you can grab yourself some cute free avatars if you are not ready to go the custom route yet. She has some great advice on how to make your own as well
An avatar is a great way to let folks get an idea of who you are so have fun with it and change it up depending on the site you are on.
And don't forget to post it up on your profile.
