Digital ATC Challenge

Hosted by: Karooch

Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) are miniature artworks created on 2 ½ X 3 ½ inch card or playing cards. They are not supposed to be sold but are traded with other artists for works of their own. To read more about how they originated check out this article on Scraps of Mind.

In the last couple of years this concept has been embraced by the digital communities around the world. Digital ATCs are created in files measuring the same size as their traditional counterparts and exchanged across the Internet through ATC exchange sites and web communities such as Flickr.

And of course this art medium is just tailor made for digital scrapbookers.

A couple of points for new ATC creators:

  1. ATCs are not the same as miniature scrapbook layouts. You need to be aware of the smaller canvas size when you are designing them or your detail will be lost and your card will look too cluttered.
  2. ATCs make fabulous virtual business cards or calling cards and when you exchange them with other ATCers you can use them as tags and accents on your layouts.
  3. When you have created your ATC, make a 'save for the web' version to load in the ATC Challenge Gallery, and also keep a copy of the high resolution file so you can use that to exchange with your cyberfriends.

Directions:
  • Create a digital ATC card
  • Upload it into the ATC Challenge Gallery below. Add you name under your ATC.
  • The winner will be voted on by our members
  • All entries to be uploaded by Saturday November 24, to allow time for voting.

And if people get into it they can request for a larger file to be emailed to them so they can have the 'real thing'.

If anyone has any questions please message me (karooch) and I will answer them. if the question is something that might be relevant to other participants I will post an answer on this page.

Example:

This was the first ATC that I ever made. It's a Hybrid piece with the focal element being created digitally.

Your entries can be either hybrid or completely digital.

I hope you give this challenge a go. ATCs are a lot of fun to make. Because they are small, they are often a lot quicker than a digital scrapbook layout to create and the scope is huge.

I just did a class today on ATC's - one of the techniques using foil - And they gave out information on the rule of three. Have you heard of that?
-One main focal point
-Two pieces of background paper
-Three tiny embellishment add ons
