Getting That File Size RightThis is a featured page

Photoshop tip: Getting that file size right!
Sometimes we have to get those 72 dpi layout files exactly the right size, in order to post in galleries who have restrictions on file sizes. I've found that if I resize in Photoshop, by going to Image, Resize, choose a width and height of 500 pixels, at 72 dpi ... even if I end up with a file size of around 100 kbs, when I post in a gallery, the file size magically increases! Grrrr! Sooooo, here is a way to do this in PS, where the size stays where you want it. :)
  1. Open the file you want to resize. Click on Image, Image size, and change the image sized to 500x500 pixels, at 72 dpi. Click OK.
  2. Then click on File, Save for Web & Devices.
  3. Choose 4-Up on the tabs at the top, choose Jpeg in the settings on the right side of the page, and using the slider in Quality, move the slider up and down until you get the exact file size you want. You can see the file sizes change under the image, as you move the slider up and down.
  4. Click on Save, and save your image.
And your file size will stay exactly that size ... now how cool is that!!!
